Missouri's Leading Industry Debate at State Fair
Senate candidates debated Missouri's primary economic driver at the State Fair, highlighting a critical misunderstanding.
Recently, at the Missouri State Fair, U.S. Senate candidates Josh Hawley and Lucas Kunce met. They discussed the question of what industry is the primary driver of Missouri’s economy. According to Josh Hawley, it is Agriculture. However, the 2022 analysis done by the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center showed that the leader is actually manufacturing. It makes 12.5% of the state’s output or simply $38 billion. Real estate is next on the list, having 11% output, and it is followed by agriculture with 1.7% or $5.2 billion. The latter type of business occupies a position at the end of the list, among lesser contributors such as utilities and educational services. This fact showcases the present tendency of critical misunderstanding of the country’s economic progression by numerous political figures such as Hawley. Therefore, at such a critical time when Kunce forming the foundation for his economic conditions and campaign, it has become essential for him to address and correct these misunderstandings with the main attributes being properly representing industries and their contributions.
