Newcastle United Starts Season Strong Against Southampton
Newcastle United kicks off their Premier League campaign at St James' Park, facing Southampton with key players returning and new signings.
Newcastle United will begin their Premier League season at St James’ Park against Southampton with a strong lineup and without new injury concerns. Fabian Schar returns from his recent knock and will start alongside Dan Burn in the Magpies’ defence. Tino Livramento will start at right-back over Kieran Trippier, with Lewis Hall at left-back.
Callum Wilson is out as he continues to recover from his long-term back issues and will miss his first opening day goal in a Newcastle shirt. Meanwhile, the Magpies can call on Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak, who will bring plenty of offensive firepower to the side. Interestingly, Wilson has been a player who has scored in every opening day when available for the Toon.
On the bench, will expect new signings Lloyd Kelly and Will Osula to make their Newcastle debuts. However, Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy are not in the squad today. Matt Targett is also on the bench after recovering from his long-term injury. Furthermore, the Englishman faces one of his former club. Playing at home, the Magpies will look to start the season off strongly by winning their third consecutive season opener at St James’ Park.
