Williams Field's Volleyball Title Revoked, Casteel Wins
The Arizona Interscholastic Association revoked Williams Field High School’s boys volleyball state championship, awarding it to Casteel High School.
The Arizona Interscholastic Association has made a significant move in the world of high school sports. Some time ago, the organization revoked Williams Field High School’s 5A boys volleyball state championship for 23-24, giving the award to Casteel High School instead. This decision was a part of the settlement that was reached when the violation was found.
In the final match, Williams Field defeated Casteel, but at the time, the winning team did not receive a banner because of disqualification caused by an unsanctioned scrimmage. Williams Field secured the home tournament, entering the playoffs as the number one seed, and was originally disqualified but restored the opportunity to participate due to a temporary restraining order.
The organization’s final response entails vacating all of these matches and essentially deleting the school’s reportedly unethical behavior from the archives. Casteel High School, the existing champion, is now recognized as the AIA champion in 2024.
