Ashlyn Watkins Arrested on Assault and Kidnapping Charges

Ashlyn Watkins, a prominent forward for the University of South Carolina's women's basketball team, faces serious legal challenges after being arrested on charges of first-degree assault and battery, and kidnapping. The arrest occurred this past Saturday following an incident at a student housing center on the university's campus, according to court documents and local news reports.

The incident, which took place at 650 Lincoln Street in Columbia, involved Watkins and another individual. According to arrest warrants, Watkins is accused of physically assaulting the victim by forcefully grabbing her face, pulling her by the arms, and pushing her. The situation escalated when Watkins allegedly picked up the victim against her will and carried her, subsequently grabbing the victim's head and forcing her to walk down the hall, thus controlling her movement and preventing her from leaving. The victim managed to escape and pulled a fire alarm, prompting a response from police and fire services. She was later treated by EMS for non-life-threatening injuries.

Following her arrest, Watkins was released on a $30,000 personal recognizance bond. Conditions of her release include no contact with the victim and maintaining a distance of 1000 yards from the victim's home, work, school, and place of worship. Watkins has been granted permission to travel out of state for games and practice. She is scheduled for a court appearance on October 25.
