Bob Cousy Criticizes Steve Kerr's Decision on Tatum

Boston Celtics legend Bob Cousy has criticised the fact that Jayson Tatum has not played at all during Team USA’s semi-final win against Serbia at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Cousy, who is also a Hall of Fame point guard, voiced his disapproval regarding the decision by head coach Steve Kerr. He insisted that it could be an embarrassment to Tatum on a global scale since the player has just won the NBA championship, always performed at an excellent level and would never turn down a chance to play.

The fact that the Guyer State product did not play any minutes during the game was not the same as the decision to limit the players’ time. Cousy’s statement highlights a major oversight in coaching that goes completely against the common sense. The recent contention concerning the decision to restrict Tatum’s contribution in a pivotal game has been a significant part of a larger controversy surrounding head coach policy and Kerr’s tactics in general. Both fans and sport analysts have had a hard time understanding why the players’ roles during a crucially important stage of the tournament had to be minimized.
