C.J. Stroud Leads Texans to Top AFC South Again

This year, with the start of the 2024/25 season quickly approaching, the AFC South is the site of one of the biggest stories in football. With an absolutely loaded roster led by breakout star C.J. Stroud under center, the Houston Texans are favored to win the division, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Before last season, the Texans had never won more than nine games in a campaign. Stroud seems poised to make that number look like a distant memory for this franchise.

Stroud threw for 4,825 yards and 47 touchdowns while leading Houston to a 10-7 record last season. For a rookie quarterback, that would be an excellent performance. For a player in his position to display no signs of being fazed or in over his head, though, is something else entirely. That sort of calm and collected leadership is not teachable, but it is simply another reason for the Texans to be encouraged about the prospect of winning. As if Stroud’s standout play was not enough, the Texans made a couple of important offseason additions, including cincinnati bengals running back Joe Mixon and Buffalo Bills wideout Stefon Diggs.

Minnesota Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter coming the other way only makes that battle-hardened Houston crew even more of a force. The Indianapolis Colts and jacksonville jaguars are not far behind when it comes to the odds for topping the division. However, Stroud’s familiarity and comfort with the Texans’ offense will go a very long way toward achieving what will undoubtedly be a high level of expectations in Houston.
