Draymond Green Criticizes Steve Kerr's Choices at Olympics

In the semifinals against Serbia during the 2024 Paris Olympics, Draymond Green was the Golden State Warrior’s standout as he challenged Team USA’s coaching choices. This created a problem for Steve Kerr who was responsible for managing the NBA games but had been criticized for his star player rotation decisions by Green. The first half saw further confusion when Warriors’ star Steph Curry scored 20 points, which was better than the 17 and 13 points in the earlier matches. The question was why the head coach would still receive criticisms regarding his choices as the international tournament continued despite the better performances.

On the social media platform, X, Green quickly updated about his frustrations when the first half ended and during the twenty-minute halftime break. He reported that the worst choice was the minimal playing time allocated to Kevin Durant during vital final moments. Green also declared that giving Curry and Lebron James sub opportunities was the proof that the coaches were not interested in winning based on the observation that the two were not even tired.

The internal criticism faces the risk of undermining the US Team’s chances if the talents are under the impression that they are better than the assigned coaching staff. One area of contention between players and Kerr is how the latter avoids challenging choices in the name of favoring the players’ inevitable fatigue. The current situation can disrupt the possible international tournament’s success if the issues are not resolved.
