Hamish Kerr's Dive Under Bar Turns Into Viral Sensation

Hamish Kerr, a New Zealand high jumper, has drawn not only the world’s attention when he won the gold medal. During one of his attempts, he jokingly decided to dive under the bar, and the video quickly became viral and turned into a series of memes on social media. For that reason, ESPN’s Mina Kimes also noticed the situation and posted the video from the event. However, in her case, it was a fun metaphor about how “sometimes, you just gotta dive under the high expectations of life”.

Kerr's humorous decision has become one of the fun episodes. He managed to out-compete the American high jumper Shelby McEwen.

Initially, both athletes had the same height of 2.36 meters. However, both Kerr and McEwen were eager to continue the competition and had agreed earlier that they would not share the gold as other jumpers had done at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In the end, Kerr won, jumping at the height of 2.34 meters. Moreover, in general, both athletes missed eleven previous attempts. Therefore, a funny event turned into a story that will remain in the history of sports. Mina Kimes’s tweet is just a part of her hobby to unite sports and cultural matters. It makes sports competition events more vivid and fun while enhancing the general impression.
