Heritage Week 2024 to Feature Over 2,000 Events

National Heritage Week 2024 will bring more than 2,000 events across Ireland and is expected to be no less captivating than previous ones. In Louth as well, the week will fill the second half of August with various events united by the theme “Connections, Routes and Networks,” which are expected to deepen the participants’ understanding of local heritage.

Specifically, in Louth, these will be a creative session on painting tiles at Mellifont Abbey, a celebration on the occasion of 175 years of railways in Dundalk, and tours across St. Nicholas Quarter. Also, on August 20, those interested in preserving the environment will have an opportunity to clean up Clogherhead Beach and have a scavenger hunt there.

It is worth noting that the Heritage Council, headed by Virginia Teehan, aims at increasing the informative character of the event. The latter now encompasses the fields of nature, culture, and history and includes many various types of these events. Thus, on Wild Child Day, families will have an opportunity to explore Irish nature interactively, while other days will also encourage the exploration of the aquatic heritage of Ireland. Thus, the week promises to be not only captivating but also truly informative and educational.
