J.J. McCarthy to Miss Entire 2024 NFL Season Due to Surgery

The minnesota vikings’ plans for the new NFL season have been complicated by the fact that rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy, whom they selected with the No. 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Michigan, is “slated to be out for the remainder of the 2024 season”. Earlier this week, the Vikings’ first-year player underwent surgery to repair a meniscus issue in his knee, Kevin O’Connell, the head coach of the team, said.

When McCarthy first reported knee soreness, the medical staff responded to the situation. “He did undergo surgery this morning on that meniscus,” O’Connell told reporters. “[It] did reveal that a repair was necessary, which will end J.J.’s 2024 season”. The starting quarterback for the first game between the Vikings and the New York Giants on September 8, is likely to be Sam Darnold. The player has been competing to be the No. 1 signal-caller in his seventh year in the NFL. Vikings fans and the team itself were optimistic about the chances of the college football national champion making a significant impact in his first year of NFL play. However, they will be deprived of the opportunity to see him in action until 2025.
