Kamala Harris's Media Engagement Debated on NewsNight
In a heated NewsNight discussion, Bakari Sellers and Abby Phillip debated Vice President Kamala Harris's engagement with the media and public.
On today’s NewsNight, panelist Bakari Sellers had somewhat of a heated discussion with host Abby Phillip over the extent to which vice president kamala harris was engaging with the media. In the wider context of the panel, it was noted by co-panelist Scott Jennings that the former President Donald Trump was doing much better in the polls with a higher approval rating than Joe Biden. Sellers suggested that this was not the case, as it would be reflected in Trump leading the polls against Harris.
The bulk of the discussion, however, focused on the degree of media and other public engagement by Vice President Harris in what was clearly a sore point for the administration. Abby Phillip suggested that, 6 months later, Harris still has not had a substantive conversation with the press or been involved in memorable public interactions. CNN contributor Shermichael Singleton now questioned whether four years on she would be fully engaged with her role. Sellers, however, made a strong case for the irrelevance of stakeholder engagement in the media, suggesting that the Vice President has been visiting and holding events in crucial states like Wisconsin, Arizona, and Pennsylvania. The argument seems to reflect the general trends, and the argument had in the press in recent months concerning Harris’s approach to media and public engagement after being selected to play a prominent role in the politics of the future.
