Margate's Ducky Derby: A Carnival of Racing and Fun

Margate is preparing for the fourth annual Ducky Derby – long-awaited event filled with community vision and simple competition. On Sunday, August 25, from 11 am to 1 pm, Scott’s Dock and Washington Ave, Margate, will see the boisterous carnival of bobbling yellow appearing on the horizon and gaining speed in the rippling water heading towards the Margate Pier. Held under the auspices of Margate Gardens Wine and Spirits, the proceedings will be not only enjoyable but also beneficial in terms of prize-winning. Indeed, the owners of the top three racing rubbers will be awarded Visa gift cards in the amount of $ 1000$, 500, and 25, correspondingly.

The start of the “race” will be kicked off at Scott’s Dock. At the sound of the whistle, the “redneck posse” will send off the “ducky minions” of the participants who bought the “ducky arguments” in form of the raffle tickets. The course of the race is a straight one, right towards the Margate Pier. The ducks will meander through the rope, propelled by the current and a bit of a push by a man in a kayak, which will be also done by the member of the audience, hopefully not drunk. The rubber ducks will have numbers this year, and the shouting of “Go Birds!” from the volunteers on the boat will play the role of the tutoring to the federation. Naturally, the 4 th Annual Ducky Derby will not be exclusive to an isolated racing play. This year’s program will be replete with various numbers such as the Duck Chuck game and the Quack in the Hole, not to mention the “Chicken Dance” competition which will be hosted by USA DJ. The tickets will be sold only before the 25 th of August – till 8 pm on Thursday, and will not be presented on the day of the event.
