Markiplier's Influence on My FNAF Experience

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the iconic horror game, Five Nights at Freddy’s, or FNAF, it is time to admit my unique journey through the FNAF world so far. To a big extent, it has been shaped by the exciting plot and reactions of the famous YouTube star Markiplier. As much as I tried to engage with the game in my early years, I could not see much progress. It appears that I am not a person who enjoys jumpscares in their leisure time. The only thing that saved me is my friend’s confident recommendation to watch Markiplier’s FNAF walkthrough. As strange as it may sound, Markiplier’s screaming and laughing became a form of odd comfort that I still consider a sleep ritual to wrap up a busy day. At the same time, since I only watch Markiplier’s description and not gameplay, my understanding of the plot is as rambling as the actual game. Overall, the game has had a massive cultural impact and, seemingly, it offers a complex and exciting virtual universe.

It is quite ironic that, ten years later, this is my way to thank Markiplier for being my crazy guide through the FNAF and its comprehensive dataset. On the other hand, almost ten years later, the game is on its feet, and maybe it is high time to explore some new pieces and try other people’s recommendation before FNAF celebrates its 20th anniversary. #FNAF10thAnniversary
