Matt Corral Joins Vikings Amid Quarterback Injuries

The Minnesota Vikings have signed Matt Corral, a promising but unproven talent in the NFL, to their roster in the wake of a succession of quarterback injuries. Earlier this week, the rookie quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, was placed on injured reserve after suffering a torn meniscus. At the 2022 NFL Draft, Corral, a third-round selection by the carolina panthers, has since bounced around several teams in the league, including the new england patriots, and the Birmingham Stallions, but has yet to compete in a regular-season showdown.

The ambitions of the Vikings were hindered by Josh McCown, a former NFL quarterback turned coach, who previously worked with Corral on the field of the Panthers and could see what could come out of him. As they assess their position ahead of their second pre-season game in 2024, the Vikings are optimistic that Corral’s integration will give them the required depth to survive the inevitable attrition to which quarterbacks are subject over a long season.
