Matt Damon Leads a Heist in The Instigators Movie

Doug Liman’s most recent heist comedy, the 2022 movie called The Instigators, has recently become available for streaming on Apple TV+. The film’s ensemble cast features Matt Damon in the lead role, supported and accompanied by a string of other famous actors. In the movie, Damon’s character Rory conspires to rob a corrupt politician with the help of an ex-convict Jimmy, played by Casey Affleck.

The role each actor plays is relatively short, yet memorable – alike Toby Jones’s performance as a smarmy attorney. Highlighting the importance of Jones’s part, it might be interesting to mention that his co-star, Hong Chau, praised him in the interview for making her feel comfortable on set, and shared that Jones was the first co-worker she has ever requested a picture from.

The remaining cast includes some well-known names, with actors Michael Stuhlbarg, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, Paul Walter Hauser, and André De Shields all filling lesser, yet impactful roles. One of the strengths of The Instigators is that it is not only a quite thrilling action film but also a loving homage to the classic buddy genre, reminiscent of old comedies such as Midnight Run. Thanks to it, a well-penned script tightly tied to leading actors’ performances, Liman’s latest movie makes all the brighter mark in a row of his directorial endeavours.
