Matthijs de Ligt Investigated for Alleged Hit-and-Run

Amid reports concerning his future at Bayern Munich, Matthijs de Ligt is mocked in an investigation in connection with an alleged hit-and-run incident near the club’s training grounds at Säbener Straße. The 24-year-old Dutchman, who was driving his Audi Q8 e-tron at the time, reportedly collided with a parked car and abandoned his vehicle at the scene early on Wednesday. While a witness claimed to have recognized the offender and reported the incident to the police, de Ligt’s car was towed and impounded by German officers.

Legal experts have reflected on the possible consequences of accusations faced by the Bayern center-back. According to attorney Marc Wederhake, the Dutch could face up to three years of imprisonment or a large fine if found guilty of his actions. Katharina Thueuerkaufer, an expert in criminal and traffic law, noted that a conviction in a hit-and-run case should explicitly prove the defendant’s intent. As a result, the authorities should demonstrate that de Ligt was aware of the accident he had caused, although it is not clear how its severity was.

Contrary to the legal pressures Bayern CEO Max Eberl has not announced the Dutchman’s imminent departure to the media. Over the last few months, the player has been linked with a move to Manchester United, although the center-back was missed from the squad that flew to South Korea in early July.
