Met Police Commissioner Explains Coronation Security

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has reluctantly proved the activity of his officers during the recent Coronation events in a detailed letter to London Mayor Sadiq Khan. The incumbent police officer tried to convey to his opponent that the arrests were legitimate due to the need for the police to take action on the grounds available to them at the time, which involved “rapidly developing intelligence” on the being threats to the ceremony. The head police officer also emphasized that the immersion of 11,500 officers in the event helped implement a wide range of security measures.

Rowley also noted that it was no secret that the protesters were likely to draw on and be equipped with devices to prevent or complicate police intervention.

At the same time, the exposure still made it clear that the reins of the event were complex, not perfect in terms of practical implementation, extremely necessary in order to prevent sabotage actions. In his letter, the police commissioner also addressed the fact that the operation was not aimed at discrediting protest activity but at providing a guarantee of acceptability. Rowley has also confirmed the ongoing review of the event’s operations, adding that the Met will ensure that its display of training will be used to build up the operational picture of the same trend in the future.
