Minnesota State Fair Postponed Due to Severe Weather

Minnesota State Fair, the much-expected annual event that only recently broke attendance records, was postponed temporarily and did not open as scheduled on Tuesday morning due to the severe weather. The weather brought strong winds and heavy rainfalls to the Twin Cities metro area; there was uprooting of the trees and other damages are well-documented in Fox 9 reports by field crews.

The storm occurred Monday evening into Tuesday and brought a series of devastating weather patterns ranging from severe thunderstorm warnings and even tornado sirens and whipping winds that occasionally surpassed the 70 marks. Despite the National Weather Service’s affirmations that the severe threat weather has passed, the urge highlight that there is still a lot of attendant work to be done. Fox 9 Field crews are reporting that there was quite a lot damaged by the storm. Most economic interests appeared to be shattered as tents were reduced to mere pieces of “cheaters” and playsets turned upside down. Even tractors that were left at the entrance were as well turned upside down. Streets are littered with all manner of dirt, debris, and uprooted trees.

State fair officials are currently engaged in a close-out of the day’s events and have to decided to delay opening as expected. Clean-up by the cleanup crew has since commenced to repair the damage and secure the area. Both confirmed through on http://www.myfox9.com/category/233731/x and on an update by a reporter at the Fox 9 as early as 3.30 a.m. The X page expounds on this by informing their viewers that quite a lot still remains to be cleared from the streets and up by 7 a.m. it looks quite impossible that the cleanup will be completed.

This temporary closing has quite an economic implication on a lot of people who rely on the fair for their daily survival. A lot of people made plans for the fair which started last Thursday and runs through Labor Day, September 2 nd. Basically, the fair is an economic boon to department vendors, amusement operators, attraction vendors, and has several community’s booths.

“We look forward to revealing when gates will reopen once weather damage on the State Fair Ground is repaired and Grandstand on the State Fair Ground website stated that after 8:30 a.m. the opening did not come” - Fair officials are confident they’ll reopen; whether fairs will toughen and handle future such eventualities swiftly remains to be seen.
