Nick Foles Announces Retirement from Professional Football

Nick Foles, one of the key figures in the Philadelphia Eagles’ first and only Super Bowl victory, has announced retirement. The 35-year-old quarterback will cap his professional with the team that initially drafted him, where he has generated numerous great moments, including one of the greatest trick plays in Eagles’ history, dubbed the “Philly Special”. The Philadelphia Eagles confirmed that Foles will retire in a special ceremony before the team’s first home match of the new season against the Atlanta Falcons on September 16.

While playing in the NFL for 11 seasons, Foles experienced a number of high points, none greater than his 373-yard performance in Super Bowl LII, where he once and for all established himself as a Philadelphia sports legend. In the subsequent years, his career trajectory, often involving playing for a variety of teams, mirroring the NFL’s “running joke” about the player’s ability to maintain steady employment, but none of the teams managed to leave the same impression on Foles as the Eagles have.

There could have been no other choice for retiring for Philadelphia, as, since Foles left the team, no player has been allowed to wear the iconic uniform number nine. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie expressed great admiration of the player’s qualities, highlighting not only his playing ability but his personality and integrity, which embody the team’s spirit that Foles has represented so well.
