Noah Lyles Faces Challenges at Paris Olympics 2024

During the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, USA’s Noah Lyles encountered one of his biggest tests on his way to a double gold. The budding talent finished third in the men’s 200-meter track event after winning the 100m final. Lyles was the man on every tongue across the globe after edging Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson by 0.025 se to complete the 100m race in 9.77 se and become the first American to clinch the title in 20 years since Justin Gatlin. Although he had already accomplished his mission, sitting as the fastest man on the land since the Bombay Games, his fans and nation were not worried about the 200m race.

With the realization of his fans’ hopes and aspirations, covering the 200m race was more of a formality for Lyles. Unfortunately, he could not settle the score with his symptoms, entering the race to find Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo. By the time the 200m race ended, Letsile had changed history to become the first African man to win the gold medal in the 200 m in 19.46 seconds. Health issues caused reluctance by Lyles after the race, although his condition was not clear. Notably, his battle was COVID-19, with the champion boiling from within to avoid spreading the virus. After an enthralling final, it is unfortunate that Lyles could not accomplish his mission of winning double gold as he had planned earlier. The round is not yet over because one challenge is waiting to unfold in the men’s relay of 4-100 because it is not clear whether the champion will be fit. So, as the Olympics continue, the big question is, will Noah Lyles be part of the race?
