Phoenix and Air Perform at Paris Olympics Ceremony

The final ceremony, located in Stade de France, was a meeting with a French indie rock-band Phoenix that became a true highlight of the event, engaging the audiences with such hits as ‘Lisztomania’ and ‘1901’. The final act of the ceremony occurred when Thomas Mars, the band’s leader, dived straight into a mosh pit formed by hundreds of the Olympians, corresponding to the light-hearted vibe of the performance.

Phoenix’s music was intensified by such special guests as Air, another significant duo of the French music industry. The bands united to perform ‘Playground Love’, famous to be a part of the “The Virgin Suicides” by Sofia Coppola, supplementing the ceremony with a touch of wistfulness. The ceremony was created by the art director Thomas Jolly and was dedicated to the fictive vision of the future where the Olympics games have been resuscitated through the arts. As such, the aim of this ceremony was to whish hope to the world. Phoenix, performing in such an energetic and passionate manner, contributed to the lasting effect, creating a dynamic and fitting background for the event’s conclusion, which emphasized the celebration of culture and art.
