Quilici Fire Burns 300 Acres, I-80 Eastbound Lanes Closed

UPDATE: The I-80 wildfire is now called the Quilici fire and it started out as the vehicle that got on fire on the freeway. Truckee Meadows Fire says the fire has already burned about 300 acres and the public should continue to avoid Gold Ranch and Verdi areas while the fire is being fought.

With the increasing level of danger, I-80 eastbound lanes are closed at the state line to provide safety for travelers and enough room for the emergency vehicles. The evacuation center is organized at the Northwest Library located at 2325 Robb Drive.

Everyone should make an effort to keep informed and stay safe as the situation is rapidly changing.

People from the community are striving to assist the work of the firefighting departments and support the efforts to help people affected by the fire in the Reno area. Such an urgent evacuation was long overdue and the rough nature was trying to make a fire occur and burn as much as possible at one point. I do believe the work of the firefighters the day it all started was truly life-saving work.
