Rangers Overcome Red Sox in Dramatic Extra Innings

A BOSTON, Vu., July 24.—Texas Rangers After struggling at Fenway park appeared to be headed toward a difficult extra inning series loss to the Red Sox here tonight, but a Boston born and bred rookie third baseman wouldn’t let that happen. Instead, Wyatt Langford’s dramatic home run over the Green Monster in the ninth inning erased a 7-4 deficit and allowed the Rangers to finally beat the Red Sox, 9-7, in ten innings. It was the fifth home run of his first season, but easily the most memorable. Langford’s surprising height of only five feet and nine inches betrayed him in the seventh inning when he made a throwing error that almost sabotaged Texas’ effort. A tall third baseman with a stronger arm might have been able to complete the play. Langford’s drama in the ninth was not played. The long ball windup appearing to end a game-ending double-play threat. But a replay showed that first baseman Bo Bichette’s foot was in the air and Langford was safe, eliminating the double-play intent. The score was still 7-6, but an 0-2 pitch to a left handed hitter... starter Ogle (Mike) Zimmerman threw twi curveballs which completed the inning on a 2-2 count. The big play or the ninth was left fielder Engle (Kenny) Walden’s drive to straightaway centre field. Sonny Murrell’s arm is strong, but his desperate throw didn’t have a chance. Ray Doliscono had a good night earlier finishing a double play in the middle but there was still a strong threat in the bottom of the seventh, downing six men. Jonah Heim was the tenth-inning automatic runner. He celebrated his residency in first place in the lineup by hitting his 22nd home run.ihad no trouble at night, striking out two men to raise his season total to eight. It was the Rangers’ seventh win in 12 extra innings and an emotional lift. It paved way for the last inning of their East Coast trip.
