Revathy Sampath Accuses Siddique of Misconduct in Film Industry

In an earth-shattering development, Revathy Sampath, an actress associated with the malayalam film industry has accused the veteran actor Siddique of misconduct. This comment comes in the backdrop of the Justice Hema Committee report which reflected the work atmosphere and sexual abuse in the industry.

Revathy Sampath during a media interaction, explained an incident which occurred when she was 21 years involving Siddique, who was the former general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). As per her report, initially, she was contacted by Siddique using the term “Mole” on Facebook which in Kerala is a very known and common word used as an affectionate slang. The conversation was simple as Revathy thought, later, when she met him for the first time for a discussion related to a film proposal, she was tortured mentally and physically.

Later, this comment made the actor Siddique resign from his position in the AMMA, as confirmed by the AMMA vice president Jayan Cherthala. Despite his resignation, the accused Siddique said that there is no misconduct or any wrong groups prevailing in the Malayalam film or theatres, as highlighted in the Hema Committee earlier. Such allegations have changed the everyday life and prospects of the woman especially in the industry.

It is gathering attention and sympathy from other actors in the industry who have turned in support with Revathy, including actress such as Manju Warrier, who was also a victim of a similar incident with another director in the industry, and Geethu Mohandas. The actresses have turned in their support through social media on their Instagram profiles.

Revathy has lodged a complaint on Sunday with the Kochi City Police with the demand to systemize a complete enquiry on Siddique and other people in the film industry including the director Ranjith alleged in the same case. As per the statement of Kochi City Police Commissioner S Syamsundar, the complaint has been registered but further action is dependent on the victim. Revathy has however mentioned that she has lost hope in the police force and she is receiving help from AMMA or Women’s Commission in that matter.

This will mark some significant changes in the industry as such accusations were ignored in the past, and the film industry in general allowed a place to destroy the dignity of a woman. Such a change might be a Distributing Company could not make a deal if such allegations arrive in the future and might also have an enquiry, as it is believed that there are several wrong women who have taken the wrong path to reach high in their careers. So, whether it creates a change or not, the case format shows changes emerging in the industry and we should wait and watch the situation as the case progress.
