Rookie Bucky Irving Scores in Buccaneers Preseason Game

During the preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, rookie running back Bucky Irving made his debut for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, scoring his first NFL touchdown. While nothing remarkable in and of itself, his run is quite indicative of what the Buccaneers may expect next. Since the starters were mostly resting, the game served as a perfect opportunity for underdogs and backups to show their worth.

Irving, the fourth-round pick from Oregon, ran for scores in the final quarter, during a nice drive led by quarterback Kyle Trask. The drive lasted for eight plays and 77 yards, the final run, also taking part from inside the 10-yard line and ending in the touchdown, acting as one of the more significant ones for the Buc’s. While he ran only four times, Irving managed to demonstrate his best side and show why the Buccaneers drafted him. An agile runner like himself with quick and evasive strides is a rare sight even for the NFL, meaning that, if there is anything one critique about Bucky Irving is that he could truly add something that the Buccaneers have not seen before to their offense.

Therefore, Tampa Bay is planning to use Irving more and more in the regular season. They should not take anything away from Rashaad White, the starting back for the Buccaneers, who has more championships and experience in general. However, with enough practice, there is little doubt that Bucky Irving can become one of the key figures for the Buccaneers in the upcoming season, rendering their offense and plays deeper and more varied with his individual style.
