Also Channeling Polaroids and Poems, Montreal’s very own Flower Face, a.k.a. Ruby McKinnon, is gearing up for the release of her newest album Girl Promentheus. Her follow-up to the 2022 hit The Shark In Your Water, the new effort will see McKinnon activate the most profound extents of heartbreak and desire.

Speaking in a Zoom interview, the Montreal singer unpacked the creative process behind her newest venture. The first noticeable difference in the music is the absolutely total shift in sound, with a string quartet instrumentalising this time around for a proper cinematic offering. Opening track Biblical Love is the first time the audience will encounter the album’s thematic focus – it is absolutely sickening and melodramatic, with a slow takeoff that marks an acoustic lullaby of sorts and then explodes into theatricality.

Winners of the pandemic, according to McKinnon, include her Tumblr experience and her father as legitimate influences in her life. A rather dark travel into personal hell, the aptly named Girl Prometheus adds yet another layer onto this flower’s beautiful face.
