Severe Thunderstorms Strike San Diego's Mountain Areas

severe thunderstorms hit San Diego County’s mountainous regions, including Julian on Sunday of August 11 2024, which led the National Weather Service to issue respective warnings. The impacted areas, including Warner Springs, Oak Grove, Santa Ysabel, Lake Henshaw, Palomar Mountain, and the La Jolla Indian Reservation, saw a cluster of strong storms, accompanied by heavy rain, hail, and occasional wind gusts of up to 60 mph. The area hardest hit was state highway 79 from Warner Springs to Oak Grove at about 1:30 p.m. Hail that fell in downtown Julian was captured by the town’s web camera to fall after 2 p.m. Furthermore, images from the two nearby center town web cameras showed the storm’s extent of rainfall as well as respective thunderstomming across the region.

Local and visitors to the region that are not currently traveling are advised to exercise caution seeing that as the rain was to continue and even become potentially stronger by Sunday evening, it would create hazardous conditions. This demonstrates the very fact that at times, when it comes to the county of San Diego, the weather tends to lose its predictability especially during the summer.
