South Africa and West Indies Set for Guyana Test Match

South Africa and the West Indies are arriving on Sunday for the biennial Test match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on August 15-19, 2024. This series will be the third visit by the African team, having lost the previous two matches played in 2005 and 2010. The previous tour was cut short due to a flood which led to the abandonment of the match, and on the third day, the West Indies was declared the winner with 51 balls still left to be bowled. This opening match will see the first Test matches taking place in this venue since 2011.

Two key players have been on the line up of the African team namely Nandre Burger, a 28-year-old left-arm seamer, and 28-year-old off-spinner Dane Piedt. The tour team has made radical changes as compared to the one that participated in the drawn Test in Trinidad. Roach is the only player who has not made it to the Guyana trip, and in his place is 22-yer-old Joseph Shamar who will feature in his first home international match. Twenty-seven-year-old Temba Bavuma will be leading the African team while the West Indies will be under the leadership of Kraigg Brathwaite. This will be the first time the Providence Stadium will be hosting a Test match since 2011, with this marking the third Test match of all time. It appears like a winner takes all final Test match.
