Stephen Webb Faces Backlash on Celebs Go Dating

Reality TV shows have always been surrounded by different kinds of controversies. Today, I will talk about one of the latest scandals that emerged in the UK. One of the former “Gogglebox” stars, Stephen Webb, got under fire for his behavior on “Celebs Go Dating”. It is argued that he made a number of inappropriate and offensive comments and other things that made one of the show’s contestants feel “cheap and humiliated”.

Stephen Webb's Background and Accusations

Stephen Webb has become popular in the UK for his long-standing participation in “Gogglebox”. Born in February 1972 in North Tyneside, England, Webb has been married to his partner Daniel Lustig since 2018. Webb was accused of inappropriate behavior during his participation in the reality dating show “Celebs Go Dating”. Dean Muir, a contestant of the show and a 39-year-old driving instructor from the seaside town of Brighton in East Sussex, claimed that dating the former “Gogglebox” star towards the beginning of June, left him feeling “cheap and humiliated”. He filed a complaint against Webb.

Reactions and Responses on Social Media

Louise Perry, a representative of dating show producers Lime Pictures, responded that there were robust processes in place to ensure delegates had a positive experience at work. “Complaints are dealt with and welfare is our priority at all stages of the production process”, Perry told. The channel launched its own investigation, but Dean said: “it is uncertain”. Social media users expressed their concerns about an age gap of 17 years between Webb and his contestant. Public commentaries also point out the behavior of Stephen Webb. Apart from “talking about his dong all the time”, it is reported that he “kept asking about when they [he and Muir] could have sex”. However, I would say that one of his most disgusting comments he made earlier this month, when he tried to suggest to a 22-year-old that his favorite position in football was “left or right back”.

To sum it up, I would like to argue that it is remarkable that such scandals are getting highlighted more and more frequently. It is important to realize that behaviors of the show’s participants are of concern and questions. How much is this show vetting people and how much are they under control and support when they are in there situations to ask such questions or do such things. With the growing popularity of reality TV and its becoming a more popular and preferable form of entertainment, I hope such issues will be coming to the attention of society-turned more and more frequently.
