Tom Cruise's Stunt at Paris Olympics Hints at LA 2028

The events of the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics were a blend of a traditional Olympic ritual and Hollywood. They appeared to work as a kind of trailer for the next ceremony that would take place in 2028 in Los Angeles. As a part of such a performance, Tom Cruise demonstrated a high-wire stunt worthy of a Mission Impossible extravaganza. The well-known actor was seen, without his usual virtual mask, rappelling from the rim of a stadium to its floor.

After that, he was readily handed a helmet. A moment later he was roaring through the streets of Paris on a motorcycle, evading people who presumably were after him before he finally parachuted from a packed TV helicopter soaring safely over the stadium. The chase and stunt sequence played out to the accompaniment of music, performed particularly by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The ceremony also included a rendition of the American national anthem and the theme from “Mission Impossible” by another star, H.E.R.

In Los Angeles, in 2028, such action-film-inspired trick will probably be seen again. In such gaudy film business is brilliantly combined with the music taking the form of the spectacle. At the same time, though, such a scenario turned out to be a good hint to indicate continuity. Action-film tricks play a significant role in the life and career of Tom Cruise so such a stunt was more than symbolic but also a promise of the same spirit.
