Yves Bissouma Suspended for Leicester City Game

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma will not join his team for the Monday’s Leicester City game, as he has recently immersed in controversy. Namely, following the video that showed Bissouma inhaling what is supposed to be nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas, last weekend. As a response to the threat to their reputation and legal consequences, the club has launched an investigation and suspended the player for one match.

Manager Ange Postecoglou expressed disappointment in Bissouma, calling for the player to re-earn his coaching staff and teammates’ trust. He added that “for all our players, there is a responsibility that comes with being a professional footballer” and that as the matter was viewed by millions of people worldwide, it did not only disappoint the team but “people who support the club”, and professionals generally speaking. Bissouma joined Tottenham in 2022 from Brighton and has since played 56 matches with the club. His actions not only cross the legal boundaries – according to the Misuse of Drugs Act, nitrous oxide is considered a Class C drug – “but also undermine the professional standards we expect at the club.” The club and management hoped that this incident would teach Bissouma a lesson and change him as a person.
