Teenager Stabs Chaplain at Renmore Barracks in Galway

There is an ongoing investigation on a stabbing incident at Renmore Barracks in Co Galway that might be leading to terrorism. Thursday 11 p.m. the event occurred after a so-called chaplain Father Paul Murphy, a man in his 50s was assaulted and stabbed by a teenager outside the barracks. Murphy received serious but non-life threatening injuries and was immediately taken to University Hospital Galway.

The assailant, a male youth in his teens was apprehended by the Defence Force personnel, who also fired warning shots. As the Defence Force communicated, during the attack, the assailant might have mentioned the Irish army’s mission in Mali, which happens to be the second terrorism case in Ireland tied to this country. Serious allegations might be placed towards the assailant, considering wildfires and terrorist acts that usually hit the barracks and are connected to a Basem al-Ashi.

The Division Scenes of the Crime Unit is conducting a detailed examination of the scene. Many high-placed officials, such as Taoiseach Simon Harris and Tánaiste Micheál Martin, expressed their shock and outrage, as they thanked the rapid response of Defence Forces and Gardaí. The situation is developing, while the local townspeople are still trying to make sense of such an event near a key military object in the country.
